What's the concept?

A prompt I filled for the sharp_teeth  community (requested by lexhibition ) (That damn comm is addictive... )

Castiel might regret doing this, but he does it anyway. He tells himself it's for the greater good.

This prompt left a lot of possibilities for BAMF!Cas', so I couldn't resist. In addition, I've been wanting to draw a short comic again for ages and this prompt was just perfect.

* Bic Matic 0.7
* Rexel Cumberland Derwent Graphic (various pencils from 3H to B)
* Caran d'Ache Grafwood 9B

How did you start?

 

I started with some doodles and sketches in my sketch book to give me some guidelines. I don't even know how it gave something coherent at the end because the first sketches had nothing to do with the final result. 

 

 

My sketch book on my lovely pink table. For the comic, I drew  with the A4 sheet of paper directly on the wood so sometimes you can see the texture of the wood appearing underneath the pencil drawing. For instance, on page 1 (the title page), I didn't add "noise" or a texture with the Photoshop texturizer, it's the wood of my table that gave this grunge effect.

Left page: A sketch I didn't use in the final version because it's uncorrect. If Castiel is facing the angel banishing sigil, the sigil should be reversed as if it was shown in a mirror. 

Right page: Sketches for page 3 and 5. 
 

You worked on...

 

A4 ordinary paper which is a mistake by the way because when you have to draw a face in small size, it's REALLY small. Next time, I will use A3 sheets, it will be more convenient.

Oh, my goodness, yes, YES, I love this, everything about this. My favorite is probably page 7, with the dead hand and Castiel trying to convince himself of no regrets. I also like the blood spatters everywhere. Stunning overall!

This is fantastic and awesomely creepy. I love the bleak shades of grey and the splashes of red, I think it gives a real sense of Castiel's thoughts and regrets. Just brilliant - thank you so much for picking my prompt to fill!

As for the comic, every panel is stunning, but if I had to pick a favorite, it would be page 6. It's so simple and yet so effective.

And if the emotional sucker punch on page 9 wasn't enough, you had to go and mess with the Impala as well. IS NOTHING SACRED??? (I kid, I kid.)

I think this just might be my favorite comic of yours to date. It's definitely the most thought-provoking and conveys so much narrative with barely any text.

Stunning work as usual. It packs a really horrific punch and is very timely considering the mystery surrounding cas at the moment in the show.

Adore the way each panel reveal a little more leading up to the big reveal. The blood was amazing.

Heh, if events transpired like in your comic I would think Cas would be wise to run and hide far, far away. After all, it's not like the boys don't know their way around either heaven or hell whichever they'd wind up in.

it's not enough castiel killed the boys, he had to torch the impala! and he does look regretful in the last panel.... (i don't think he'd ever go this far on the show, but i do think he has it in him.) i really like how uncluttered and monochrome the art is - it's really creepy and ominous with the blood spatters being the only color, and for most of it we get only vague hints as to what castiel has done, which makes the big reveal very effective.

I went pretty far with this comic when it comes to character deaths. Not only I killed the boys but I also burned that poor Impala (it's not the first time, I already did it for my reverse BB, which is pure masochism because I worship that car XD )
I wanted this comic to be as creepy and as horrible as possible so I worked in black and white with a minimum of words, colors and backgrounds.

Great job with Cas. You captured him really well. I was braced for the death of Sam or Dean and was waiting to see who it would be. Then it was both and if that wasn't bad enough, Cas torched the Impala. That's got to be the angel equivalent of salt and burn. Shudder. The blood on everything being so three dimensional compared to the flatter rest of the art makes it that much more horrible.
