Art Post - Come, Morning Light

Welcome to the Art Post of Come,Morning Light, a fan fiction by

geckoholic written for the

For this challenge, I didn't work on my own, I collaborated with

quickreaver which means there are TWO art posts (isn't it awesome?

)! You can find Quick's art post HERE !

Unfortunately, we didn't have the time to collaborate on the same drawing as we originally planed but we hope to do it one day. For this challenge, we split the arts in two: Quickreaver took care of the poster art and I took care of the soundtrack. Be careful because my art are spoilery for the fic.

SOUNDTRACK ART - Color Versions

The

dc_dystopia challenge is focused on dark themes and, as you may guess the atmosphere of Come, Morning Light is far from the one of a happy curtain fic. Without being too spoilery, the situation for Dean, Sam and Cas gets darker and darker and I wanted to show the same thing in my art. I lowered the saturation of my drawings from 100% to 0% to create a gradation and went from very bright and vivid colors (Art #3) to a black and white drawing (Art #13). For this matter, I worked in full colors and just used the "saturation tool" of Photoshop to lower the saturation. Here are the drawings in their original colors and size if you are interested

Beautiful, everything! The shack is exactly like I had imagined it while reading the story. Hypnotised, Break the Spell, and Lies of the Beautiful People have that dark edge the story carries on so well, while Walk on the Ocean, Imitation of Life, and Don't Dream, It's over carry the bittersweet so well. <3

You are right, these drawings have a dark edge and it was difficult to show, particularly in the first arts where the colors were very bright and saturated. I wish I had the time to add one or two illustrations but I was already very busy. And for once, I drew a scenery art xD

Still not really my pairing, but OMG these pictures are gorgeous!
Especially the "Imitation of Life"-one ♥ (The pose, colors, everything! I could stare at it for a long time without getting bored, because WELL DONE!)

I remember the art of Dean and Cas on the couch was horribly complicated to do because of the lighting on the faces and the perspective. I wanted Dean to look all happy and Cas worried and protective.

I'm really happy dc-dystopia allowed two artists because otherwise, I wouldn't have worked on your story. Quickreaver and I claimed it practically at the same time but she was quicker!! xD I must admit I laughed when I saw that. I was like "NOoOoOoo!! Quickreaver was quicker!! Huh..wait!! There are two artists per fic!! YAAaAaAAaH!!!"

I'm glad you loved the soundtrack ^^ I tried to choose songs that aren't too often in fan mixes but it wasn't easy /o\

It's hard to pick out a favourite from this set - I was lucky enough to read the fic in advance doing a bit of last minute beta'ing and it broke my heart. Yours and quickreaver's art is just the perfect compliment to the story - I am so glad one of you did a picture of the beach house, the colours in that are so idylic and rich, and the final B&W picture is the complete antithesis which fits so well. Although I really love your Castiel in both the sofa one and the window one (that tortured/guilty expression) I think the sheer loneliness of Dean in that last one is the best....
Awesome dividers too. :D

Oh and I nearly forgot - Toad the Wet Sprocket!!! I loved their single All That I Want but so few people have every heard of them!

You are right to be surprised, I don't draw scenery drawings very often. It always seems empty to me when there isn't a character in the frame. The swing drove me nuts, it was too detailed for my own tastes but it was a thing I really wanted to do xD

Although I really love your Castiel in both the sofa

Toad the Wet Sprocket!!! I loved their single All That I Want but so few people have every heard of them!
Really? They were pretty popular in France with this single in the 1990's but unfortunately, it didn't last. I love this band, I think I have all their albums (if I'm not wrong ^^)

I am in awe of your work every time! "Imitation of Life" with Dean and Cas is so charming and strikingly beautiful! I am dazzle by Dean's happy smile and Cas serious but oh so Cas look! ^^ Words can't describe how gorgeous you drew them together =) Lovin the leg there XD!!! and the Lies of the Beautiful - T___T So firey intense! Sammy~ I'm curious now on the fic to see what happen there! It will be on my to read list when I find the chance out of my work to. And Don't Dream it's Over is gorgeous! I like how Cas is looking through window. And the brothers hug!!! I luv hug! And don't break the spell, the B/W the concept fits perfectly and makes it oh so dark with the fiery smoky skeleton head ! Thank you! ^o^ I love drawing them together and even if my OTP is J2/Wincest, Dean and Castiel are easier to draw when they are together. Do you know why? Because of the height difference. With Jared being so tall, everything is complicated, particularly drawing a kissing scene xD

I told you that this post would be a "half-empty glass" post, I didn't lie ^^;; It's a bit sad but I love drawing this kind of things ^^

Beautiful as always! My favourite is Imitation of life - love the intimate pose, the way the light falls on them, and the wonderful perspective. The colours in Walk on the Ocean are gorgeous and the whole scene looks so inviting.

I don't draw scenery drawings very often. It always seems empty to me when there isn't a character in the frame. The swing drove me nuts, it was too detailed for my own tastes xD I saturated the color a lot with the "hue-saturation" tool when I finished this drawing.

Absolutely freakin AMAZING. I love all of them but especially 'Imitation of life' - YUMMY LIGHTING! \o/ and 'Don't dream it's over' because disintegrating Sam looks fantastic! :D

Ugggh my sucky office inet connection prevents me from full-viewing and downloading these aaaaaaa T-T So I'll just comment about what I can see right now!

Walk on the Ocean: Woah a scenery drawing!? +_+ It feels very peaceful and I admire your patience in painting this, especially with that house and swing!
Imitation of Life: Heeeey I know this one XD Thank you so much for showing this earlier ♥ I love this! The relaxed pose and Dean's sweet smile! I'm amazed by Cas' expression here, he looks scary and Dean doesn't see that look. It's kinda freaking me out, I wonder what's on his mind! I have to go read the fic after commenting on you ladies XD
Hypnotised: Ooh man this is all kinds of awesome! The background is literally explosive, I like it! XD Also, the shiny hair and highlights, things I adore most about your art ^^ ♥
Lies of the Beautiful People: This is stunning and a little disturbing! Poor Sam... >_< Love the fire effect, the blood, and is that burnt flesh on the side of his face? It's really well done! ... poor choice of words? ^^;
Don't Dream It's Over: This one is probably my favorite piece in addition to Imitation of Life! The expression on Sam, the disintegrating effect, and Cas especially looks so nervous (his hands say it too!)
Break the Spell: Oh my, Dean is perfectly drawn... and so sad T-T It's also great to see your de-Saturation concept, it's very clever! ♥

Imitation of Life: When you read the story, you'll understand why Cas looks so worried and why he isn't as happy as Dean^^. I wanted the boys to look cosy but at the same time to show that there was something wrong.
Hypnotised: With me, even when the art is gory, the characters always have perfect, glowy hair xD They should hire me at L'Oreal Paris.
Lies of the Beautiful People: Ha! Ha! "Well done" is a great choice of words, don't worry. It's hard to comment on an art like this one. I mean, you will always sound like it's a good thing to torture and burn this poor Sam even if you don't think it ^^
Don't Dream It's Over: OoOoOoooh!! You were the only one to notice Cas' hands! You are totally right! He looks worried and I wanted his body language to show it, I mean, his whole body and not only his face.
Break the Spell: I always have to include a so called "clever concept" in my art ^^;; I wanted to try this gradation thing for a long time (from color to B&W) but I never had the occasion. This challenge was the right occasion ♥
